As Athina’s mom, my heart is filled with gratitude and pride when I think about the way she has chosen to walk this path. Being diagnosed with desmoid tumours is not something any young person should have to face, yet Athina has met every challenge with a quiet strength and an openness that continues to inspire me and so many others. Instead of letting this journey define her in fear, she has chosen to turn it into purpose—sharing her story, standing up for others, and helping drive meaningful change through research and awareness.Through Athina’s Ride, Athina and this incredible community have raised over $390,000 in the past five years, with every dollar going directly toward research that is already making a difference. Seeing new studies funded and long-term commitments in place reminds me why this matters so deeply. I believe wholeheartedly in her resilience, her compassion, and her unwavering belief that with continued research, shared commitment, we can move closer to a cure.
